Businesses Look to Social Media

A San Francisco-based team leader and sales professional, Peter O'Sullivan served as a senior director of the Western region with Quantcast, Inc. for three years. In this role, Peter O'Sullivan of San Francisco led a sales and account management team that provided online advertising to multiple Fortune 500 enterprise-level companies.

The internet, especially social media, has provided many benefits to businesses in recent years. Specifically, advertising on social media has allowed businesses to create awareness of their brands, improve sales, and build customer loyalty. Today, most businesses only consider the aforementioned approach when it comes to advertising due to the relatively low cost to functionality ratio of the internet. This is, however, not the only way to expand a business using the internet.

Ideally, an approach to expanding a business is to get their products and services advertised on websites that share business information for their location. Many SEO services offer this to clients. Sponsoring events and posting them on social media is another clever way for companies to get mentioned in press releases.

The Ronald McDonald House Program

San Francisco resident Peter O'Sullivan is a category lead for Facebook, working in the global accounts and categories section. His duties include achieving quarterly revenue targets as well as hiring, training, and motivating his team of global client partners and global solutions managers. In addition to his professional responsibilities, Peter O'Sullivan serves on the board of the San Francisco chapter of the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).

With over 600 facilities worldwide, nonprofit RMHC seeks to help those who need housing while their child receives medical treatment. In addition to private and corporate donors, RMHC also has over half a million volunteers. One of the main programs it offers is the Ronald McDonald House program, which provides housing and support for families traveling for pediatric medical care. While individual charters run a little different to best suit their needs, RMHC ensures that every accepted family can stay there, regardless of their ability to pay, although some do choose to donate a nominal daily sum.

As well as providing housing close to hospitals, the program often also includes access to other resources such as recreational activities, sibling support services, and accredited educational programs. Aimed at creating a holistic support system for the entire family, the program also provides meals and play times for children.
